It adds simple text-based tables with controlled HTML handling, focusing on security, ease of use, and reliable formatting for forum discussions.
Addressing the Need or Issue
When posting to a forum, tables are one of those features you often don’t need—until you do. Presenting even simple information in a clear, easy-to-read grid format can become surprisingly frustrating when the right tools are not available.
Design Overview
We believe forum maintainers and users do not need a complex table editor for most discussions. What they need is a simple, safe, and secure way to organise text-based information clearly. Gator-Gate-Tables focuses on solving that common 90% use case without adding unnecessary complexity.
The module works alongside the Gator-Gate-Editor and Gator-Gate content filter firewall. Table creation and content filtering remain separate responsibilities: the editor provides the interface, while Gator-Gate controls what HTML and formatting are permitted to pass through.
By limiting tables to controlled structures and text-based content, the module reduces complexity. This approach maintains lightweight performance, improves security, keeps forum content clean, responsive, and maintainable, while enhancing the overall forum writing experience.
