Gator-Gate Firewall Update — Per-Forum Submission Limits

The Gator-Gate Firewall is a content filter for bbPress posts. It is designed to strip the thousands of unwanted hidden characters and unnecessary formatting that can be introduced when copying and pasting content from Google Docs, Word documents, and various HTML websites. Currently, as the Alpha designation suggests, some things work, and some don’t. What is being considered as the final design for a Version 1.0.0 release has, however, been pretty much decided upon. Perhaps one more port could be added to allow links to be treated as plain text rather than clickable links.. The new Submission Limit will be controlled per forum, rather than using one global limit across the entire site. This gives each bbPress forum its own Maximum Content Size setting.

The default submission limit is currently 5,000 characters. This approach gives Gator-Gate Firewall more flexibility. A normal discussion forum can use a smaller limit, while forums designed for articles, long-form writing, or larger formatted submissions can be given a higher limit.

The limit will apply to the cleaned content after Gator-Gate Firewall processing.

The goal remains the same: a lightweight, modular firewall where each forum can decide exactly which protections and content features it needs.
