This feels like a bit of a comic routine.
1: Faulty brake system (Hawkei is an Australian-made ‘armored Land Rover’ replacement )
2. You can use the vehicle but you must keep your speed below 40 km an hour due to the brakes.
3. The Ukraine ambassador wants them for free. (Best grifters in the world)
This is obviously MAD MAX's finest hour for safety concerns with Ukraine. I was thinking of M.A.S.H when I heard the name Hawkei and army in the same sentence but the vehicle is named after a highly venomous snake, the Barkly Death Adder – Acanthophis Hawkei – which is found in the Barkly Tablelands on the Northern Territory-Queensland border.
A little bit of backstory might help put the video into more context. The issue of brakes is more than 2 years old.
11 Mar 2022 - Who is undermining Hawkei?
The 04 March story revisited news that Defence stopped accepting delivery of the vehicles in December 2020
The ANAO report then says Thales Australia developed a software fix that was incorporated into the Hawkei's vehicle control system and administrative controls were put in place to prevent the issue from occurring until the software fix was implemented across the fleet, with a deadline of June 2022.
Initial Operating Capability was reached on 20 May 2021, and in July 2021 Minister Dutton and Minister Price announced the braking issue was resolved in a press release that is still available online at the time of writing.
Who is undermining Hawkei?
So why has the braking issue resurfaced now when it was 'resolved' in July 2021?
