David is described in Psalm 110 as a priest of the order Melchizedek and it was Solomon David's son who prayed the dedication as the spirit of God fell on the Temple.

As I understand it Israel sold their birthrights when they asked for a king in 1 Samuel 8 which is why they scurry for David's line because Saul's line is dead. Warn the people solemnly - 1 Sam 8:17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. The tenth generally represents the tithe to the Temple, Tabernacle, or the priesthood.

David is described in Psalm 110 as a priest of the order Melchizedek. Ps 110:4 The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” Since Solomon David's son dedicated the Temple it is possible the Temple was dedicated under the order of Melchizedek even though Levites could have been allowed to serve there.

2 Chronicles 7:7 - Furthermore?

2 Chronicles 7:7 Furthermore Solomon consecrated the middle of the court that was in front of the house of the Lord; for there he offered burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat.
