L.U.C.K = Labor Under Correct Knowledge

Israel with Joshua castes lots in Joshua 18. Curious very curious.

I have always wondered about the practice of Israel casting lots when you meant to be a chosen people led by God as it were. There are a number of places this happens including Joshua 18. In trying to find an answer to this practice of casting lots this is about as close as I have gotten. It’s a case of wisdom vs knowledge as I understand it. A prophet can represent a certain wisdom of God, like cause and effect. In 1 Kings 18 we have Elijah saying – I have not made trouble for Israel, but you and your father’s family have. You have abandoned the LORD’s commands and have followed the Baals. Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. Elijah is laying down a cause and effect for the situation.

Then with Jonah 1, We have Jonah saying about the storm, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea, and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.” So what has this to do with casting lots? In the case of wisdom vs knowledge, when you don’t have the wisdom of God you have to guess. When you have to guess you're hoping that you are lucky enough to guess right as in the case where the lot fell to Jonah. L.U.C.K = Labor Under Correct Knowledge. This takes us to educated guesses of what might be the best course of action due to the lack of wisdom of God as with the men on the boat with Jonah. Hence we will cast lots to let God decide. In the garden, Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that does not mean you acquire wisdom as well. In fact God placed a flaming sword to guard the tree of life. I found the King James version of this verse interesting Ecclesiastes 7:12 “For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.”

Like I said, It is as close to an answer as I have gotten,
