In the Tariffs Wars of 2025, the rebel alliance while taking its time to gain some traction. Found an unexpected mover. Colombia imposes a 25% tariff on the American Empire as a retaliatory reaction.

What goes around comes around and while BRICS is perhaps what many consider the flagship against an aggressive U.S. foreign policy of the dollar. Some aspects could be considered an inert change. As is it simply makes better business sense given the speed of technological change and with the world shrinking. To use a local currency for trading then bear the extra cost of using the U.S. Dollar or currency conversion costs for certain trades.

As an example, Australia back in April 2013 started direct trading with China. This is the last paragraph of a release from the Australian Embassy China.

Australian Embassy China - 130716ecoandtrade - Economic and Trade Relations

In April 2013, Australia and China commenced direct trading between the Australian dollar and the Chinese renminbi. Direct trading should help to lower currency conversion costs, facilitate the currencies’ use in bilateral trade and investment, and promote financial cooperation between our two countries.

Indonesia recently became a full member of BRICS. Australia also had/has some bilateral trade agreements with local currency and The Reserve Bank Of Australia.

21 Feb 2022 - Renewal of Bilateral Local Currency Swap Arrangement Between the Reserve Bank of Australia and Bank Indonesia

This agreement is designed to promote bilateral trade for the economic development of Australia and Indonesia. In particular, the agreement will ensure that trade between the two countries can continue to be settled in local currency even in times of financial stress. The agreement can also be used for other, mutually agreed, purposes.

On the other side of the coin are tariffs and sanctions used to punish and inflict hardship in the hopes that pain will cause a change of direction between opposing parties. In severe cases, it has been linked to blackmail, economic warfare, and various criminal conduct.

Currently, the Wiki lists 6 countries that have sanctions against America. Some sanctions are a number of years old.

Economic sanctions against the United States

The United States of America had multiple sanctions imposed on them throughout history.[citation needed] Most recently, United States President Donald Trump has introduced economic sanctions in 2018 on multiple trade partners, including China, Canada, the European Union and Mexico.[3] This series of tariffs are known as the "Trump tariffs" and has been responded negatively to by sanctioned trade partners. The United States of America has also imposed ongoing economic sanctions on Iran and Russia dating back to 1995 and 2014 respectively.[4][5] As of June 2019, the following countries and political unions below have introduced economic sanctions against the United States.

Enter Colombia by putting a 25% tariff on imports from the U.S. (There are reports Colombia imposed a 50% tariff on imports) makes 7 countries with sanctions against America. Considering the shots that Trump is firing around at everybody including taking over countries by economic force. It might be the start of a trend.

Petro said in response on X he had ordered Colombia's foreign trade minister to "raise tariffs on imports from the U.S. to 25%."

Trump hits Colombia with tariffs, sanctions after it refuses deportation flights

Catch up quick: Petro ordered Colombian officials to turn away military planes carrying deportees this weekend. He said in a post on X that the U.S. cannot treat Colombian migrants like criminals and should return them on civilian flights.

  • "I can't force migrants to stay in a country where they're not wanted, but that country should return them with dignity and respect toward them and also our country," Petro wrote.

Trump wrote in a Truth Social post that he was imposing emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the U.S. from Colombia, a travel ban on Colombian government officials and other major financial sanctions in response to the refusal to accept the flights.

The latest: Petro said in response on X he had ordered Colombia's foreign trade minister to "raise tariffs on imports from the U.S. to 25%."

  • He added: "The ministry should help direct our exports to the rest of the world, other than the U.S. Our exports must expand."

State of play: In one week, Trump wrote, the tariffs will rise to 50%.
