Oh Canada, tariffs like a Jenga tower or a Rubik's cube can be complicated. The China ban of rare metals came from the last remaining days of the Biden administration along with Trump signaling his approach to BRICS and Canada.

Information about the China ban on rare metals can be found in this post.

Given that some of these metals are used in chip manufacturing and possibly with an impact on electric vehicle batteries. Could you also say China has picked on Elon Musk with a little trolling for i-robots and electric cars?

Now a Canadian mining group seems to be suggesting that if you end up putting a tariff on us with a ban from China. To buy the replacement stock because of the China ban from us would incur a tariff on your price. So the U.S. ends up on this occasion paying for the 25% Trump tariff price increase that flows down the supply chain line in the U.S.

China’s move to ban exports of rare metals to the US underscores the need for trade cooperation between mineral-rich Canada and its southern neighbor.

That’s the message from the Mining Association of Canada, which argued that China’s decision to curb shipments of gallium, germanium and other key metals to the US is “a stark reminder of the challenges posed by geopolitical tensions, particularly on the reliable supply of critical minerals.”

The statement from the mining association follows the escalation of trade tensions with the US, after President-elect Donald Trump threatened to slap 25% tariffs on all goods coming from Canada and Mexico unless the countries each do more to stem migration and fentanyl.
