Just my opinion but if your Russian this is how you respond at a diplomatic level to someone who is consider by his loyal peers to be a masterful negotiator. Displaying his craft, doing the art of the deal with truth, justice, and the American way.  On an American led proxy war of over 50 countries.

14 Mar 2025 - Putin weighs in on US attempts to restore bilateral ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin has acknowledged the new US administration’s efforts to rebuild ties between Moscow and Washington but said the process remains challenging.

“We know the new administration, headed by President [Donald] Trump, is doing everything to restore at least part of what was practically reduced to zero, destroyed by the previous American administration,” Putin said on Friday during a meeting with Russia’s Security Council.

However, he noted that the “process is not easy, if not to say complicated,” adding “let’s see what comes of it.”

Might be just me but when a relationship is described as the “process is not easy, if not to say complicated,” adding “let’s see what comes of it." Sounds like a bit of a smack down and you might want to start looking for that someone special elsewhere but we will take what we can and give nothing back. Que the fix what is broken or fix what is destroyed paradigm.

The above article seems to be referring to this video address by Putin. The title of the video some might find misleading. That could depend if you are taking what is being said at face value or if you are reading some double speak into the conversation.

14 Mar 2025 - Trump warns Kiev not to ‘pick on somebody larger than you’

“Russia has a large group of Ukrainian soldiers, as we speak, surrounded and in grave danger. They’ve been able to surround them,” Trump said in a speech at the Justice Department on Friday, adding that his predecessor Joe Biden “should have never let this war happen.”

“First of all, you don’t want to pick on somebody that’s a lot larger than you, even with the money. There’s a lot of money that we gave them and a lot of equipment. We make the best military equipment in the world, but even with all of that… It’s unbelievable,” Trump said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier in the day that he was “sympathetic” to Trump’s plea for Moscow to spare the lives of Ukrainian soldiers but noted that for his call to be “effectively heeded,” Kiev must order its troops to surrender.

“If they lay down their arms and surrender, [we] will guarantee them their lives and dignified treatment in accordance with international law and Russian legal norms,” Putin said.

Personally, all of this seems to contrast with a skit out of Big Bang Theory which I believe was in S04E13. Some might remember the line "I'd like to weigh in" better. So the title of the video might also be a little misleading for some.

OK, OK, maybe I don't understand Russian diplomacy or their sense of humour at all.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev dismissed the demand.
“Britain and its minister can shove their idea back up the sh*thole it came from, diplomatically speaking,” Medvedev, who serves as deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, wrote on X.

The UK has also demanded an unconditional armistice from Moscow.

“Now is the time for a ceasefire with no conditions. Ukraine has set their position out. It is now for Russia to accept it,” UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said in a comment to the press on Friday.
