There are more than 45,000 Christian denominations globally. Somehow, this represents a problem for some Christians and their traditional view of doctrine. One might argue that view represents a static view of doctrine rather than a dynamic view of doctrine, such as with dodgy doctrine. Some mental gymnastics might be required. First, let’s say from some point of view they are right. Which then implies from some point of view they are wrong. We have made it to a glass-half-full, half-empty scenario. Which then also implies a half-truth vs a half-lie in what they believe in their denomination compared to another denomination. We now are getting near to this quote and the encumbrance that all of this entails.
“The most intangible, and therefore the worst, kind of a lie is a half truth. This is the peculiar device of a conscientious detractor.”
— Washington Allston
Under a static view of doctrine, you just got caught in a dangerous game. Of course, you can argue your point that they are wrong, but you have also got to understand that you are also most likely wrong because you are not perfect. In context, out of context. Is there such a thing as being led by the Spirit?
Ezekiel 37:1-10 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.
Should context come from your lessons with the Spirit of God? Would that be a dynamic view of scriptures as you go through life?
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
A dangerous game is a journey to discovery. Where you can find out how people might have learned their lessons from God. Hold the line, hedge your bets is like. Hope for the best and plan for the worst with their interpretation of scripture.
Psalm 22:24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
Points of view? are grey in a black-and-white world. Dodgy doctrine is as much about the journey of discovery as it is about anything else.
John 3;8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.’
